The History of Crocs
The Crocs Empire...
Where did Crocs come from? Seriously?
These peculiarly plastic-looking, brightly coloured creations bounded into the world in 2002 like enthusiastic puppies. Intended as a functional boating shoe, with their non-marking and slip resistant sole, Crocs became a phenomenon. People picked up on these benefits, as well as healthy effects of Crocs' trademarked croslite material.
The US was the first country to be seduced by the “marshmallowness” of the Croc. Sufferers of skin complaints began to find relief in the anti-microbial shoes. Workers in warm conditions were rewarded with cooled feet. Vegans didn't have to shop around endlessly for shoes that were ethically produced and still comfortable. Were Crocs actually making America happier?
It was only a matter of time before these brazen aliens crossed the boarders, and the American Invasion of Crocs hit the UK, and met with incredulity. Crocs weren't worried. They'd faced cynicism before, but had they faced good old fashioned British cynicism?
If there's one thing that's apparent about Crocs, it's the Marmite of footwear. People love them or hate them. The next thing you know, your sister, your kids, your dad and your best friend are wearing them, bold as brass! You pick up Heat, and you know what? Celebs are wearing Crocs. Hollywood A-listers no less; Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino, Matt Damon...
Crocs went from cult status to a global fame, building an Empire. And it's not over yet. With the development of new variations and styles, fans punch the air while the headshakers still just don't get it.

The mystery behind Crocs' comfort
Crocs are something of a phenomenon, and there are several good reasons for this. They continue to be popular and loved among men, women and children. Do you know why? Because of science! That's right, I'm going to tell you about the science behind Crocs, and you will see your shoes in an entirely different way. I guarantee it.
Picture a highly knowledgeable person (me, clearly) in a labcoat. I thwack my flipchart with my pointer at the words ethylene vinyl acetate. Exciting stuff! This is the foundation of the foam resin croslite. Croslite is, essentially, what makes a pair of Crocs your pair of Crocs. It's the croslite that rather cleverly moulds to the shape of your feet. This way, not only are you provided with the ultimate in comfort, but also support.
This croslite stuff isn't satisfied with just making sure you're comfortable and adequately supported. Oh no. It wants to keep working for you. We've read that Crocs shoes are anti-microbial (I thwacked my flipchart again), but let's just break it down to see what that means.
Croslite inhibits the growth of funghi and bacteria. The chances of infection and discomfort are actively reduced, and your feet love that. The knock on effect of this is a greatly reduced danger of foot odour. Your family and friends love that quite a bit too. This means that Crocs shoes are not only comfortable and health conscious, but also work hard to make you and your loved ones happy.
You can't argue with that – it's science.
