What are crocs made of?

The mystery behind Crocs' comfort

Crocs are something of a phenomenon, and there are several good reasons for this. They continue to be popular and loved among men, women and children. Do you know why? Because of science! That's right, I'm going to tell you about the science behind Crocs, and you will see your shoes in an entirely different way. I guarantee it.

Ethylene Vinyl Acetate - image shamelessly nicked from WikipediaPicture a highly knowledgeable person (me, clearly) in a labcoat. I thwack my flipchart with my pointer at the words ethylene vinyl acetate. Exciting stuff! This is the foundation of the foam resin croslite. Croslite is, essentially, what makes a pair of Crocs your pair of Crocs. It's the croslite that rather cleverly moulds to the shape of your feet. This way, not only are you provided with the ultimate in comfort, but also support.

This croslite stuff isn't satisfied with just making sure you're comfortable and adequately supported. Oh no. It wants to keep working for you. We've read that Crocs shoes are anti-microbial (I thwacked my flipchart again), but let's just break it down to see what that means.

Croslite inhibits the growth of funghi and bacteria. The chances of infection and discomfort are actively reduced, and your feet love that. The knock on effect of this is a greatly reduced danger of foot odour. Your family and friends love that quite a bit too. This means that Crocs shoes are not only comfortable and health conscious, but also work hard to make you and your loved ones happy.

You can't argue with that – it's science.

What are Jibbitz?

What are Jibbitz, and how did they come about?

Jibbitz are a fantastic way to customise your Crocs, and some people really go crazy and have a Jibbitz for every hole in their shoes!

JibbitzSo what on earth are Jibbitz, I hear you say? Well, they're simply little decorative attachments for the holes in your average pair of Crocs.  They come in all shapes, sizes, colours and themes and give any Crocs wearer the opportunity to make their shoes even more special than they already are.  Girls will love the flower type Jibbitz and women always go for the sparkly rhinestones, which really glam up a pair of Prima Crocs.  Here at My Amazing Shoes, you also get a rhinestone jibbitz included in the popular Olivia style too.

And how did Jibbitz start?  The idea was sparked off by the children of Sheri & Rich Schmelzer who were mucking about, poking flowers through the holes of their Crocs.  The couple realised this could be a great business opportunity and set about make the idea a reality.  A website was launched in 2005, and Sheri ended up taking around 200 orders a day, which she then handmade in her basement.  The rapid growth meant that they could expand, relocate their offices and employ more people.  In just one year, 8 million Jibbitz were sold across the globe, being offered in thousands of stores. Crocs bought the Jibbitz company for ten million dollars in 2006, and they remain an incredibly popular accessory for Crocs shoes.

We sell a great range of Jibbitz shoe charms, from flowers to smilies and sporty charms.  Take a look today, and if you see some you like, take the opportunity to buy yourself a new pair of Crocs with them too ;)

Socks with Crocs

Can you really get away with wearing socks with your crocs?

Crocs are fabulous, but wearing them with socks-  Is that not a major fashion mistake?  It's just like wearing sandals with socks which everyone knows is the biggest error anyone could possibly make.
Just a quick scan over the internet will show you what a talking point this subject is, and I'd say around 70% think it's a bad look, but the majority of those people admit it's still a good idea for comfort and warmth together.
Of course, a good pair of Nadia Crocs will solve that problem, but in the summer, you want to wear your Cayman's whilst take the edge off the odd cold breeze.  So in that respect, it's a pretty good idea.  However:

Crocs Cayman with Socks Look at George Bush over there on the left. Do you think that's a good look? George is no fashionista but this looks like a real low point, midlife type crisis to me. A Google image search will demonstrate many other examples of this bizarre combination of Crocs with socks.  All these pictures bring back harrowing memories of my childhood- being 10 years old, and my mother still insisting I wear little black shoes with knee length white socks.

It looks so disastrous, because it's so obvious and garish.  Therefore, the key to wearing Crocs with socks is simply to make it subtle.  It's important that your feet are as comfortable as they can be, and it's possible to do that while being discreet.  Wearing small trainer socks which match the colour of your Crocs is the perfect solution.
